Action鈥檚 aim听
This action鈥檚 aim is that orchards which produce top fruit and permanent bush crops are听maintained听under organic management.听
The purpose of this is to:听

improve soil health听

increase biodiversity听

improve water quality听
Where you can do this action听
You can do this action on land听located听below the moorland line that鈥檚:听

registered as 鈥榝ully organic鈥� by a Defra-licensed organic control听body听
-
used to grow top fruit (such as apples,听pears听and plums) or bush fruit crops (such as gooseberries and redcurrants) as a commercial crop which is not used to produce alcoholic drinks听

registered with an eligible land cover on your digital maps听

declared with a land use听code which is compatible with the eligible land cover听

Eligibility of protected land听
Sites of special scientific interest (SSSIs): Eligible 鈥� you must:鈥�

give notice to Natural听England to get SSSI consent before the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) offer you an SFI26 agreement听

have received SSSI consent from Natural England before you do this action (read听section 10.1听鈥楽SSI consent鈥�听in the SFI26 scheme information for more details)听
Historic and archaeological features: Eligible 鈥� you must get an SFI HEFER before you do this action (read section听5.3鈥�楲and with historic or archaeological features鈥� in the SFI26 scheme information to find out how to do this).听

Total available area in a land parcel (at the point of application).听It鈥檚听your responsibility to check that the area you enter is eligible for this action.听
You must do this action on the area听entered into听your SFI26 agreement. If something happens which means you cannot complete this action on some or听all of听the area, you must tell the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) in writing as soon as possible.听Read section 12.2 鈥榃hat to do if you cannot comply with听your听agreement鈥�听in the SFI26 scheme information to find out how to do this.鈥�� 鈥����

This action is static. This means you must do it at the same location each year of this action鈥檚 duration.听
What to do听
You must:听

comply with听the organic standards required by your Defra-licensed organic control body on land听entered into听this action听
-
protect the trees from grazing livestock and pests, such as deer and rabbits, to prevent听serious damage听
-
manage weeds and vegetation around the base of听establishing听trees鈥�
When to do it听
You must do this action from its start date, throughout each year of its 3-year duration.听
How to do it听
You must do this action in a way that meets the required organic standards.听
Evidence to keep听
You must keep a valid organic certificate and schedule for all land听entered into听this action 鈥� this must cover at least the full period of this action鈥檚 duration听
You must also keep other evidence to show what听you鈥檝e听done to complete this action, such as:听

copies of sales receipts for fruit crops听

photographs and other documentation听
You must supply this evidence if we ask for it.听

Where you can do this action - land needs to be used to grow top fruit as a commercial crop which is not used to produce alcoholic drinks. An eligible land type is defined in section 5.1 鈥楨ligible land types for SFI鈥� in the SFI scheme information.
