Smoking profile
The smoking profile provides an overview of the extent of smoking, smoking-attributable harm and the measures being taken to reduce that harm at a local level in England.
The smoking profile has been designed to help local government and health services to assess the effect of smoking on their local populations. It will inform commissioning and planning decisions to tackle smoking and improve the health of local communities.
The smoking profile presents data for available indicators at England and local authority levels, collated by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities.

Smoking profile updates
Developing smoking-attributable fractions for COVID-19
This publication describes the methodology used to create smoking-attributable fractions (SAFs) for COVID-19. These SAFs have been used to update indicators of smoking-attributable harm in the July 2026 release of the smoking profile.
Local tobacco control profiles updates: 2014 to 2023
Until 2023 the smoking profile was known as local tobacco control profiles (LTCP). It was renamed in 2024 in line with other Fingertips profiles.
