We have considered all consultation feedback and assessed whether we need to make changes to our guidance.

After careful consideration of all the responses and comments, we are progressing with the guidance with changes as outlined in the consultation document.

Our guidance will support water companies in England and Wales, and regional groups in England, to plan for secure water supplies and environmental protection.

We have published the updated Water resources planning guidance and the Environmental Destination for Water Resources planning guidance.

Consultation description

Due to the high volume of detailed responses received and current resource constraints within the team, we have needed to extend the timeline for completing the consultation review. We are now working to finalise the analysis and prepare our response by 27 March. We appreciate stakeholders’ patience as we ensure all feedback is fully considered and accurately reflected in the updated water resources planning guideline.

This consultation is about the Environment Agency’s proposed updates to the water resources planning guideline.  

The consultation information explains:

The consultation asks you to consider whether the guideline allows water companies to produce plans with secure and resilient water supplies which protect the environment.
