Responsibilities

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster administers the estates and rents of the Duchy of Lancaster, and is a member of the Cabinet.

She is responsible for:

  • Oversight of all Cabinet Office policy
  • Coordination and delivery of cross-government priorities
  • Oversight of national security policy coordination
  • Oversight of state reform and Civil Service reform
  • Communications policy for Government 
  • Propriety and ethics 
  • Public appointments

The Rt Hon Louise Haigh MP

Louise Haigh was appointed First Secretary of State, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, and Minister for the Cabinet Office on 20 July 2026.

She was previously Secretary of State for Transport from 5 July 2024 to 29 November 2024.

She was the youngest female Cabinet Minister to ever be appointed.  

Louise was elected as the MP for Sheffield Heeley in May 2015.  

Since being elected as an MP, Louise has held a number of shadow ministerial roles, including Shadow Secretary of State for Transport from 2021 to 2024.  

Louise served as a Special Constable in the Met Police between 2009 and 2011 and worked for Aviva as a public policy manager from 2012 to 2015. 

Louise studied politics at Nottingham University and law at Birkbeck, University of London.
