The UK鈥揟hailand Women in STEM Awards aim to recognise and support outstanding early to听mid-career听women researchers in science, technology,听engineering听and mathematics (STEM) who have听demonstrated听research excellence, leadership, and commitment to strengthening UK鈥揟hailand collaboration.听

The Awards are delivered by the British Embassy Bangkok, in partnership with Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). The programme contributes to strengthening research, innovation and people-to-people links between the UK and Thailand, while promoting women鈥檚 leadership and visibility in STEM.听

About the UK-Thailand Women in STEM Awards听

The UK-Thailand Women in STEM Awards aims to fund a short visit to the UK for women researchers from Thailand to advance STEM collaboration听between Thailand and the UK.听

Applications will be open to women researchers who currently or previously hold Thailand Research Fund scholarships and meet the following criteria:听

• Identify as a woman;听
• Hold Thai nationality;听
• Be an early to mid-career full-time researcher (within 15 years of acquiring their PhD);听
• Work in a STEM-related discipline; and听
• Preferably has experience of collaboration with the UK in an academic, research, innovation, policy, or professional context.
• The selected applicant must be able to obtain听appropriate visas听to enter the UK prior to travelling to the UK otherwise the award will be cancelled.听
• The visit must be completed by 15 February 2027, with all payments made and receipts submitted to the British Embassy Bangkok by 28 February 2027.

Eligibility checks will be applied upon the receipt of the applications. Applications which do not meet the criteria will be rejected during these checks. If you are unsure with your eligibility, please contact听the听British Embassy Bangkok.听

The call is open to women applicants across all STEM disciplines.听

Funding and Financial Arrangements听

Further details on the funding value and eligible costs will be provided to successful applicants.听听

Funding will be administered in line with British Embassy Bangkok regulations. Grants will be paid directly to an individual account, with a maximum funding level of听拢3,000听for听one听person听only.听Payments will be made on a reimbursement basis, and successful applicants will听be required听to听submit听original receipts to claim expenses. Reimbursements will be processed via the applicant鈥檚 PayPal account.听

The following section details the costs that are covered by the award:听听

• Roundtrip听international airfare (economy class) to the UK;听
• UK visa fee (Standard service only);听
• Subsistence for the period of stay in the UK;听
• Travel insurance;听
• Costs for accommodation and other daily expenses such as local transport; and听
• Other expenses听directly related听to the visit, e.g. fees for using a laboratory or attending a class.听

• Costs beyond the above arrangements will be borne by the award holders themselves.听
• Successful applicants will accept full responsibility for all aspects of the visit and must take out adequate insurance for themselves to cover risks associated with travelling abroad, including unexpected or uncontrollable events. The British Embassy Bangkok will not be liable for the consequences of any such risks or any costs incurred during the visit.听
• The terms and conditions in these guidelines are subject to change without prior notice.听听

Key Timeline听

• 22听May to听22听June 2026:听Applications are open for submission.听
• 22听June听onwards:听听Applications are assessed by the selection committee.听
• 3听July:听Results are announced via email.听
• 17 July:听Award ceremony听in Bangkok.听Award recipients must be able to attend the ceremony.
• By 1 Dec 2026: Confirm听visit听plan听at least听45 Days before departure.听
• By 15 Feb 2027:听Deadline for visit to be concluded.听
• 28 Feb 2027: All payments to be spent听and receipts听submitted.听
• 15 March 2027:听Visit report听submitted.听

Application Process听

Submissions by email or letter will not be accepted.听听

Applicants must听submit听a completed听.听Deadline for submission is听22听June 2026 (4.00pm Thailand time).听

Selection Criteria听

Applications听will go through听an eligibility check by the British Embassy Bangkok against the given criteria in these guidelines. Eligible听applications听then are reviewed by the British听Embassy Bangkok听and the听Ministry of Higher Education, Science,听Research听and Innovation听(MHESI)听against the following criteria:听

Impact in STEM听

• The impact of your work on your community, profession,听industry听and country of entry, including how it has contributed to knowledge creation, skills development, technological advancement, sustainability, or听evidence based听decision-making.听

Support for women leadership听

• Actions, initiatives, or mentorship you or your projects have provided to empower women in STEM.听

Collaboration between Thailand and UK听

• Demonstrated past collaboration or partnership with the UK, especially projects which听aligns with UK priorities.听

Visit plans听

• The extent to which the visit will contribute towards developing a听long-term听sustainable research and education partnerships between Thailand and the UK.听
• How the visit adds value to the current PhD research, and the benefits to both parties.听
• The proposed agenda is听appropriate for听the funds provided.听

The British Embassy Bangkok will use the information provided in the application for processing the application, making any consequential award, for the award payment, monitoring,听maintenance听and review.听

Information provided by applicants may be shared with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and relevant UK Government partners, where necessary, to support the management of the application, selection, and monitoring processes. All听selection听and monitoring decisions will be made jointly by the British Embassy Bangkok and MHESI.听

Applicants will be asked to consent to:听

• Information relating to successful applications being made publicly available on official websites, reports, and publicity materials relating to the programme.听
• Being contacted in the future听regarding听related opportunities or programmes administered by the British Embassy Bangkok or its partners.听

All personal data will be handled听in accordance with听applicable data protection legislation. Under relevant data protection laws, applicants have the right to request access to the personal information held about them and to request corrections to any inaccurate information.听
