Cardiff's biggest ever jobs fair sees thousandsÌýof young people connect withÌýlocalÌýemployersÌý

Wider youth employment support, backed by £2.5ÌýbillionÌýwhichÌýwill ensureÌýevery young personÌýis able toÌýearn or learn.Ìý

  • MoreÌýthan 600Ìýon the spot job offers confirmed on the day with more thanÌý40ÌýemployersÌýandÌýtrainingÌýprovidersÌýfrom Southeast WalesÌýin attendance, includingÌýWelsh Rugby Union,ÌýAramarkÌýand Transport for Wales.Ìý

Thousands of young peopleÌýfrom across WalesÌýwere broughtÌýface to face withÌýsome of theÌýregion’sÌýbest-knownÌýemployers inÌýCardiffÌýthis weekÌý(Wednesday 13 May)Ìýin the biggest ever jobs fair of its kind.ÌýÌý

The event wasÌýWales’Ìýfirst everÌýjobs fair to be hosted as part of theÌýYouthÌýGuarantee theÌýgovernment’s scheme toÌýensure young people are either earning or learning. Hosted at the iconic Principality Stadium, the event welcomedÌýthousands ofÌýyoung jobseekers fromÌýacrossÌýCardiff, Newport, theÌýValleysÌýand the Vale of Glamorgan.Ìý

AttendeesÌýwere given direct access to aÌýwide range of employment and trainingÌýopportunitiesÌýbrought togetherÌýunderÌýtheÌýstadium’sÌýroof.ÌýDefence, hospitality andÌýconstructionÌýwere just some of the strong career pathwaysÌýopen to attendees atÌýthe event.Ìý

Employers and training providersÌýprovidedÌýjobseekers withÌýdetails ofÌýthe hundreds ofÌýopen vacanciesÌýandÌýapprenticeshipsÌýopportunities being recruitedÌýwithÌýmore than 600ÌýjobÌýoffersÌýalreadyÌýmade.ÌýÌý

Pat McFadden, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, said:Ìý

The Jobs Fair in Cardiff has shown what’s possible when government and employers work together.ÌýÌýÌýÌý

Young jobseekers have been shown what the next step in their career journey couldÌýbe – and in some cases will have left with a job offer.ÌýÌý

I’m delighted so many local employers are choosing to back our Youth Guarantee,Ìýand we will keep goingÌýfurther so we can ensure every young person has the chance to earn or learn.

Before the event, young jobseekers received specialised group information sessions to help them get the most out of meeting employers face-to-face.Ìý

They alsoÌýreceivedÌýhands-on advice covering everything from filling in applications to preparing for interviews – giving them the skills and confidence they need to take theirÌýfirstÌýstep intoÌýthe world ofÌýwork.Ìý

TheÌýjobsÌýfairÌýformsÌýpart of the Government’s ongoing commitment to tackling youth unemployment and ensuring young people can access the opportunities available in their local area.ÌýÌý

By bringing together jobseekers from across the region alongside a broad range of employersÌýthe eventÌýhas helpedÌýcreate lasting pathways into sustainable employment for young people acrossÌýWales.Ìý

The eventÌýreinforces the Government’s commitment that all young people underÌýthe age ofÌý25 should be offered one of the following high-quality pathways:ÌýÌý

  • ±ð³¾±è±ô´Ç²â³¾±ð²Ô³ÙÌýÌý
  • continued educationÌýÌý
  • an apprenticeshipÌýÌý
  • a traineeship, work experienceÌýplacementÌýor Sector-Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP)Ìý
