We run two schemes for students in their penultimate year of study: the Sandwich Placement Scheme and the Summer Scheme. Opportunities聽are聽available across the UK.

If you聽would like to spend a year working in a government department, making a difference to聽society,听and learning about the role of economics in government then聽you might be interested in聽our Sandwich Scheme.聽 -
GES Summer Scheme聽| Opens in autumn of each year
Much like our聽Sandwich Scheme, but shorter, the Summer Scheme is for those who want to聽spend a summer聽building work experience and聽learning about聽government economics.聽听听

Assistant Economist Scheme聽| Opens in winter of each year
聽 As an economist in government, you will have the opportunity to influence how the government responds to the most important public policy challenges of the聽day.鈥疉ssistant Economist roles are available at a range of government departments across the UK.聽 -
Government Economic Service Fast Stream | Usually opens in autumn
On聽the GES Fast Stream聽you will have the opportunity to聽influence policy and shape the government鈥檚 response to today鈥檚 essential economic issues.聽The Fast Stream聽scheme is an accelerated development programme that聽seeks聽to develop future leaders, both in the GES and the Civil Service more widely and therefore has a specific focus on leadership skills and experience.鈥��

GES Degree Level Apprenticeship Scheme聽| Opens in winter of each year
For those without an economics degree, we run a nationwide degree-level apprenticeship scheme. This is a four-year programme which offers you the opportunity to work in a government department at the same time as studying for a fee-free Economics degree with the University of Kent.聽听听聽
