Charity regulator appoints Interim Manager to Brighton and Hove Heritage Commission
The Charity Commission, the regulator of charities in England and Wales, has appointed an Interim Manager to Brighton and Hove Heritage Commission (registered charity number 1193686).
The charity was placed under statutory inquiry inÌýJuly 2025Ìýto investigate concerns about whether theÌýcharity’sÌýgoverning document is fit for purpose andÌýwhether any failings or weaknessesÌýidentifiedÌýin the administration of theÌýcharity are a result of misconduct and/or mismanagement by its trustees.Ìý
The Commission has appointedÌýanÌýInterim Manager to the charity, whose role is to undertake certain duties in line with the charity’s governing document.Ìý
PippaÌýGarlandÌýofÌýRussell Cooke LLP isÌýtasked with:Ìý

taking any stepsÌýimmediatelyÌýnecessary to secure the property of theÌýcharity including taking control of and managing all assets of theÌýcharity.ÌýÌý

administering theÌýcharity until such time as there are validly appointed trustees.Ìý

after the governing document of theÌýcharity is amended by the Commission byÌýaÌýscheme under section 79 Charities Act 2011, confirming theÌýcharity’s membership,ÌýthenÌýholding a general meeting at which a new board of trustees is appointed.ÌýÌý

reporting progress to the Commission on a regular basis as agreed, and in compliance with the Charities (Receiver and Manager) Regulations 1992.ÌýÌý

dischargingÌýsuch other related general functions as the Commission mayÌýreasonably request.Ìý
TheÌýInterim ManagerÌýhas been appointedÌýto the exclusion of any trustee of the charity.ÌýÌý

On 10 November 2025, the inquiry exercised the Commission’s power to appoint an Interim Manager by Order under section 76(3)(g) of the Act to the exclusion ofÌýanyÌýtrustees.ÌýOnce they have completed the scope of their appointment, the Interim Manager will be discharged by an Order made under section 337(6) of the Act.ÌýÌý
