Charity regulator appoints interim managers to international aid charity amidst ongoing investigation

The Charity Commission, the regulator of charities in England and Wales, has appointed interim managers to Barnabas Fund, which is also known as Barnabas Aid.

Ìýwas placed underÌýstatutory inquiryÌýinÌýSeptember 2024ÌýtoÌýinvestigateÌýserious governance and financial concerns including allegations of unauthorised payments to some ofÌýthe current and former trustees and related parties.Ìý

Edwina TurnerÌýand Catherine GibbonsÌýofÌýAnthony Collins LLPÌýhaveÌýbeen appointed asÌýinterimÌýmanagersÌýof the charity to the exclusion of the charity’s trustees.ÌýThe Interim ManagersÌýwill:Ìý

  1. takeÌýfull control of the charity’s administration, assets, records,ÌýbankingÌýand governanceÌý

  2. investigate historic decision-making and related-party arrangementsÌý

  3. protect and recover charity assets where necessaryÌý

  4. regularise governance and report back to the Charity CommissionÌý

The Commission’s inquiry into the charityÌýremainsÌýongoing. Ìý
