The newÌýlocal plan system, developed by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG)ÌýandÌýwithÌýspecialist input fromÌýthe Planning Inspectorate, came into force in March 2026 with the new Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026, replacing the existing 2012 planÌýmaking regulations. ItÌýintroducedÌýa structured gateway process designed to support earlier engagement and help deliver the government’s expectation of a 30-month end-to-end plan-making process.Ìý

We are committed to working closely with MHCLG and the wider planning community to make this new system a success.
