The Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC) is an advisory non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Business and Trade.
We are responsible for:
- scrutinising the quality of the evidence and analysis supporting the case for why government regulation is necessary under the Better Regulation Framework
- providing independent expert opinions on whether the impact assessments, options assessments and post-implementation reviews for regulations produced by government departments are fit for purpose
°Õ³ó±ðÌýRPC members are a committee of 8 independent experts from a range of economist and regulatory policy backgrounds. They have specialist understanding and experience of the impact of regulation on business, voluntary organisations and consumers.
Members are appointed by the the Secretary of State for Business and Trade in line with the Cabinet Office Governance Code for Public Appointments.

Register of interests
RPC members are required to declare publicly in a register of interests, any private financial or non-financial interests of their own, or of close family members, which may, or may be perceived to, conflict with their public duties.
Gifts and hospitality
RPC members must not accept any gifts or hospitality which might, or might reasonably appear to, compromise their personal judgement or integrity or place them under an improper obligation. Where a gift or hospitality is accepted, this is recorded in a public register.
