Biography

Daniel Tomlinson MP was appointed as a Parliamentary Secretary (Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury) and Minister for Growth jointly in the Cabinet Office and HM Treasury on 22 July 2026.

He was previously Parliamentary Secretary (Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury) in His Majesty’s Treasury between 1 September 2025 and 22 July 2026.

He was elected as the MP for Chipping Barnet in July 2024.

Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury (Minister for Growth)

The Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury (XST) is the Growth Minister and is responsible for: 

  • The Treasury’s input to: 

  • Workforce policy, including global talent and migration 

  •  devolution policy, including: regional growth, cities and elements of housing and planning reform  

  • Net Zero, including Great British Energy, decarbonisation, and green industries 

  • Industrial Strategy  

  • Innovation including R&D, AI, digital economy and diffusion 

  • Inward and foreign direct investment (non-FS), including HMT’ s oversight of the Office for Investment and investor relations 

  • Procurement and commercial strategy 

  • Economic and business regulation and competition 

  • Reforms to the UK’s Public Financial Institutions, including driving growth via the National Wealth Fund and British Business Bank 

  • Business engagement (non-FS)  

  • The Crown Estate  

  • Departmental minister for HM Treasury Group (including responsibility for the Darlington campus)
