Edward Haxton

Biography
Edward Haxton arrived in Brazil as His Majesty’s Consul General to Rio de Janeiro in August 2026.
Edward has been a diplomat and lawyer at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office since 2018. From 2022 to 2025 he was Multilateral Counsellor and Head of International Law at the British Embassy in The Hague, where he oversaw the UK’s engagement with the multilateral institutions in the Netherlands.
Prior to that, he worked as a lawyer in the FCDO’s multilateral and national security teams, covering a range of geographic and thematic issues in London, New York and Geneva. Before joining the FCDO, he worked in private practice as an international lawyer.
Edward has deep professional and personal connections to Latin America. His areas of expertise include international trade and investment, national security and multilateral affairs. He has a first-class degree in Modern Languages from the University of Leeds.
