Biography

Leigh Stubblefield is the British High Commissioner to Malawi. Prior to that, she was Deputy High Commissioner and Development Director to Kenya. Other senior roles include Acting Director of the FCDO’s Office for Conflict, Stabilisation and Mediation and Deputy Director in the cross-Government Stabilisation Unit. She had an earlier posting with DFID in Kenya (2006-11) as well as Mozambique, Malawi and Bangladesh. Prior to joining the Civil Service she worked for environmental research and international development organisations in East Africa and South-East Asia.

The High Commissioner is the UK government’s representative in a Commonwealth nation. They are responsible for the direction and work of the High Commission and its Deputy High Commissions and/or Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
