Changes to tuition fees: 2026 to 2027 academic year and 2027 to 2028 academic year

For the 2026Ìýto 2027 academic year andÌýthe 2027 to 2028Ìýacademic year, the following changes will apply to maximum tuition fees and tuition fee loans for:Ìý

  • full-time undergraduate coursesÌý
  • full-time accelerated undergraduate coursesÌý
  • part-time undergraduate coursesÌý

These changes will apply from 1 August 2026Ìýand from 1 August 2027 respectively.Ìý

The government intends to lay regulations implementing these changesÌýin earlyÌý2026. These regulations will be subject to Parliamentary procedure.Ìý

Tuition fees and loans forÌýfoundation years in classroom-based subjects will remainÌýfrozen atÌýacademic year 2025 to 2026 levels.ÌýSeparate information is available on Ìýfees andÌýloans forÌýclassroom-basedÌýfoundation years.Ìý

Courses offered by approved (fee cap) providersÌý

Maximum tuition fees for undergraduate students starting or continuing full-time and part-time courses at approved (fee cap) providers[footnote 1]  in the 2026Ìýto 2027Ìýacademic yearÌýand the 2027 to 2028 academic yearÌýwill be increased byÌý2.71%ÌýandÌýthen byÌý2.68% respectively.Ìý

The maximum tuition feeÌýin theseÌýacademic yearsÌýwill depend on whether an approved (fee cap) provider has:Ìý

  • a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) award from the Office for Students (OfS)Ìý
  • an access and participation plan (APP) from the OfSÌý

Providers with TEF and an APPÌý

The maximum tuition fee in the 2026Ìýto 2027Ìýacademic year for approved (fee cap) providers with a TEF award and with an APP will increase to:Ìý

  • £9,790Ìýfor standard full-time coursesÌý
  • £11,750Ìýfor full-time accelerated coursesÌý
  • £7,335Ìýfor part-time coursesÌý

The maximum tuition fee in the 2027Ìýto 2028Ìýacademic year for approved (fee cap) providers with a TEF award and with an APP will increase to:Ìý

  • £10,050Ìýfor standard full-time coursesÌý
  • £12,060Ìýfor full-time accelerated coursesÌý
  • £7,530Ìýfor part-time coursesÌý

Providers without TEF and with an APPÌý

The maximum tuition fee in the 2026Ìýto 2027Ìýacademic year for approved (fee cap) providers without a TEF award and with an APP will increase to:Ìý

  • £9,525Ìýfor standard full-time coursesÌý
  • £11,430Ìýfor full-time accelerated coursesÌý
  • £7,140Ìýfor part-time coursesÌý

Providers without TEF or an APPÌý

The maximum tuition fee in the 2026Ìýto 2027Ìýacademic year for approved (fee cap) providers without a TEF award and without an APP will increase to:Ìý

  • £7,620Ìýfor full-time accelerated coursesÌý
  • £4,760Ìýfor part-time coursesÌý

The maximum tuition fee in the 2027 to 2028 academic year for approved (fee cap) providers without a TEF award and without an APP will increase to:Ìý

  • £6,520Ìýfor standard full-time coursesÌý
  • £7,820Ìýfor full-time accelerated coursesÌý
  • £4,885Ìýfor part-time coursesÌý

Arrangements for different study patternsÌý

Students undertaking the final year of a standard full-time course completed in less than 15 weeks will be charged up to 50% of the maximum tuition fee.Ìý

Students undertaking a work placement year for a sandwich course will be charged up to 20% of theÌýmaximumÌýstandard full-time or full-time accelerated tuition fee.Ìý

Students undertaking an overseas year of study or Turing year will be charged up to 15% of theÌýmaximumÌýstandard full-time or full-time accelerated tuition fee.Ìý

Eligible students undertaking courses at approved (fee cap) providers[footnote 1]  will qualify for tuition fee loans to meet the full cost of their tuition inÌýbothÌýthe 2026Ìýto 2027Ìýacademic yearÌýand the 2027 to 2028 academic year.Ìý

Courses offered by approved providersÌý

Full-time and part-time courses offered by approved providers[footnote 2] are not subject to maximum tuition fee limits.Ìý

Undergraduate students starting or continuing full-time and part-time courses at approved providers in the 2026Ìýto 2027Ìýacademic yearÌýand the 2027 to 2028 academic yearÌýwill qualify for tuition fee loans towards their tuition.Ìý

Maximum tuition fee loansÌýin the 2026Ìýto 2027Ìýacademic yearÌýand the 2027 to 2028 academic yearÌýwill be increased byÌý2.71%ÌýandÌýthen byÌý2.68% respectively.Ìý

Arrangements for different study patternsÌý

Students undertaking the final year of a standard full-time course at an approved provider, completed in less than 15 weeks, will qualify for a tuition fee loan of up to 50% of the maximum tuition fee loan.Ìý

Students undertaking a work placement year, for a sandwich course at an approved provider, will qualify for a tuition fee loan of up to 20% of the maximum tuition fee loan for standard full-time or full-time accelerated courses.Ìý
