Road traffic estimates (TRA)
Data on road traffic by road and vehicle type, produced by Department for Transport.
The Department for Transport (DfT) publishes estimates of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) traffic within the road traffic statistics. We are seeking users鈥� views on a change to how HGV data is collected for road traffic statistics. From 2028, roadside counts of HGV traffic will be simplified into two categories: rigid and articulated vehicles. This change will not affect the information available on total HGV traffic聽within the published summary statistics. 聽It will impact the level of disaggregation available for HGVs by number of axles in the count point level data that is available to download via the road traffic geographic website and API.
We are inviting users to provide comments on the proposed change by 31 August 2026.
