Get help to correct an employer PAYE bill

Use this service to dispute an employer PAYE charge and ask HMRC for help to find the payroll error and fix the problem.

You can use this service to get help from HMRC if you think your employer PAYE bill is wrong and you:

Who can use this serviceÌýÌýÌý

You can use this service if you’re:ÌýÌý

  • a PAYE employerÌýÌý

  • an agent acting on behalf of a PAYE employerÌý

Before you startÌýÌý

You’ll need the:ÌýÌý

  • PAYE reference numberÌýÌý

  • Accounts Office reference — if you have oneÌýÌý

  • Self Assessment or Corporation Tax Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) — your business will have one of theseÌý

  • number of employees your business has

You’ll also need to give details of any Full Payment Submission (FPS) amounts from your payroll software for the tax year, including the total:ÌýÌý

  • Income TaxÌýÌý

  • employer and employee National Insurance contributionsÌýÌý

  • student loan deductionsÌýÌý

  • Class 1A National Insurance contributionsÌý

If you’re disputing more than one year, you’ll need to submit a separate request for each year.ÌýÌý

Give the details as they appear on your payroll software, not from your HMRC business tax account.

What happens nextÌýÌý

You’ll get an email with a reference number when you submit your request.ÌýÌý

We’ll contact you by email within 40 working days with your FPS information and help card to assist you with fixing your payroll records.ÌýÌýÌý
