Help to find work for Universal Credit claimants aged 16 to 24
Extra support is available for people aged 16 to 24 on Universal Credit, including jobs, training and apprenticeships through the Youth Guarantee Journey.

If you get听Universal Credit听and are听aged 16 to 24,听you听could听get extra help to find work through the鈥�DWP (Department for Work and Pensions)鈥痀outh Guarantee Journey.听Ask your work coach if you can get this help.听
While听you鈥檙e听on the Youth Guarantee Journey,听you鈥檒l听keep getting听Universal Credit听in line with the agreements made in听your鈥�claimant commitment.
Support you can get
The Youth Guarantee Journey aims to:听
- help prepare you for work听
- make it easier for you to find a job听
- find the right support听for you
Based on the support you need,听you may get help from:听
- a work coach in a jobcentre听
- a work coach in a Youth Hub听
- a youth employability听coach听
You鈥檒l听agree the best听option听with your work coach at the start of your Universal Credit claim, or later as your work coach gets to know you.听听
Types of help
You may be offered:听
- : learn new skills and get experience of working in a type of job, for example, care, construction or warehouse work听
- : build your skills, experience and CV
- an apprenticeship: a paid job with training听
- sessions to get help with CV writing, goal setting, job听applications听and interview practice, run by experienced staff from large companies
- other work-related training听
Your work coach at your local jobcentre will听let you know what听options are available in your area and will听support you听during听the听journey.
Travel and childcare costs
If you attend training or work experience, you may be able to ask for money back for travel and childcare. Speak with your work coach about this.听
Employment and听skills review
础蹿迟别谤听测辞耻谤鈥�肠濒补颈尘补苍迟听肠辞尘尘颈迟尘别苍迟鈥痬eeting, you will have a work and听skills review with your work coach.听听
You will听get听support made for you and be听told about the Youth Guarantee Journey. Your work coach will听help you听set听your job听goals, and work out what you are good at and what you like.听
At the review you will:听
- get support to develop and improve your CV听
- learn how to search and apply for jobs online听
- identify听any听training you need听
- check听if you need any support with English,听maths听or IT听
- see which work-based options are available to you听
- discuss anything that makes it harder to take part in work-based options听
By the end of the review, you will agree steps to:听
- move closer to work
- find work听
- 颈苍肠谤别补蝉别听测辞耻谤听别补谤苍颈苍驳蝉听
Regular work coach appointments听
During your time on the听journey, you will have regular appointments with your work coach by phone, face-to-face or online.听
You will get support to meet your needs and deal with any personal problems you may have that make it harder to find a job.听
Your work coach may refer you to other local support and local job opportunities, for example:听
- basic skills training听
- other work-related training, including a鈥�SWAP听
- work experience听(2 to 8 weeks)听
- support from a Youth Hub听
- support from a youth employability coach
Youth Guarantee听Gateway meeting
From the start of your time on the听Youth听Guarantee Journey, you will have been given support to take up work,听training听or education as soon as possible.听
After听13 weeks听on the journey,听you will have a听鈥榞ateway鈥櫶齛ppointment where听you鈥檒l听agree what to do next with your work coach.
You must听agree听to do听one of the following:听
- work听
- an听apprenticeship听
- work听experience听
- a听SWAP听or听Wales Skills to Employment Pathway听
- training听(up to 16 weeks)听
- education听that works听with Universal Credit听
Youth Hubs
Your work coach may refer you to a Youth Hub. A Youth Hub听can听help you:听
- build skills听and confidence听
- write your听CV听
- prepare for interviews
If you鈥檙e听referred to a Youth Hub, you can still take part in the Youth Guarantee Journey if听you鈥檙e听eligible.
There are over 100 Youth Hubs听across听England,鈥疭cotland鈥痑nd Wales, with many more being set up.听You can find them in听city centres, towns, coastal听and rural areas.鈥�
They share听sites with other organisations听such as those focused on housing, employment and skills,听and mental health support. This听means you can听get more help in one place.听
Some Youth Hubs offer a drop-in service for all young people, including those not claiming Universal Credit.听

Youth听employability听coaches
Your work coach may refer you to a听youth听employability听coach if you have other things stopping you finding a job.听
Youth employability coaches听are based in jobcentres.听
They can support you to move into work for up to听6 months.听And they can support you for up to 6 weeks after you start work, to help you settle into your new role.听
If听you鈥檙e听referred to a youth employability coach, you can still take part in the Youth Guarantee Journey.

听is a flexible听training and development programme for 16- to 19-year-olds that provides the skills,听qualifications听and experience to get a job or further training.听
听is听for people aged听20 and over.听It offers specialist employment support听for听long-term unemployed people听and helps those听with complex barriers, including low skills听and听health conditions.听
听has听grants听for听people听who听may lose their job听or听have听recently听lost听their听job.
