Some new zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) are eligible for a government grant. This means you can buy these vehicles more cheaply.

You do not apply for the grant. The seller includes it as a discount in the purchase price.

Eligible vehicles

Only vehicles that have been approved by the government are eligible.

The discount you can get depends on the type of vehicle.

The types of eligible vehicles are:

• cars
• trucks
• vans
• wheelchair accessible vehicles

Some new zero-emission cars are eligible for a government grant. This means you can buy these zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) more cheaply.

To be eligible for a grant, the vehicle must:

• be an M1 passenger vehicle
• produce 0gCO2/km at the tailpipe
• have a minimum battery range of 100 miles (160km)
• have a 3-year or 60,000 mile warranty, whichever is reached first
• be powered by a battery with an 8-year or 100,000 mile warranty, whichever is reached first
• meet minimum sustainability criteria

There are 2 possible discounts you can get depending on which band the car is in.

Band 1 cars

The maximum discount available for cars assessed as Band 1 is £3,750.

The maximum discount is £2,500.

To be eligible for a grant, the vehicle must:

• be converted from a passenger vehicle (sometimes known as a ‘category M1 vehicle’)
• have zero tailpipe CO2 emissions
• be able to travel at least 112km (70 miles) without any emissions
• cost less than £50,000 (recommended retail price, including VAT but not including cost of conversion or delivery fees)

If you’re in England, Scotland and Wales

You can get a maximum grant of:

• 20% of the cost to buy a truck weighing 4.25 to 12 tonnes
• 40% of the cost to buy a truck in other weight categories

If you’re in Northern Ireland

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can get a maximum grant of:

• 20% of the cost to buy a truck weighing 4.25 to 12 tonnes
• 40% of the cost to buy a truck in other weight categories

Large enterprises can get a maximum grant of:

• 20% of the cost to buy a truck weighing 4.25 to 12 tonnes
• 30% of the cost to buy a truck in other weight categories

Trucks weighing 4.25 to 12 tonnes

The maximum discount available for some trucks weighing 4.25 to 12 tonnes is the lower of:

• £15,000
• 20% of the cost of the upfront cost of the vehicle
