To inform you that, due to a recent outbreak of听peste听des petits ruminants (PPR) in听Croatia, safeguard declarations have now been published to restrict imports听from Croatia听of听the following commodities:听
- fresh and chilled (untreated) hides and skins of ovine and caprine animals (GBHC 540)听听听听
- untreated wool and hair from ovine and caprine animals (GBHC 586)

Croatia reported their first case of PPR on 14 December 2025:听. This outbreak was confirmed on 13 December 2025 in sheep in听Bogdanovi膰i, in the municipality of Prgomet in Split-Dalmatia County.听听
OVS 苍辞迟别听2025/77听was issued on 15听December 2025, notifying of the PPR outbreak and requesting that consignments of听live sheep and goats, ovine and caprine germplasm,听raw milk and raw milk products听derived from ovine and caprine animals,听fresh and chilled (untreated) hides and skins of ovine and caprine animals and听untreated wool and hair from ovine and caprine animals听be听held.听
OVS note 2025/79听was issued on听16 December听2025, notifying that the UK Office for SPS Trade Assurance had听amended its country listings to temporarily suspend imports from听Croatia听of the following commodities:听听
- live sheep and goats (see the听)听
- ovine and caprine germplasm (see the听听补苍诲听听lists)听
- raw milk and raw milk products derived from ovine and caprine animals (see the听)听
This OVS note also听requested听that consignments of fresh and chilled (untreated) hides and skins and untreated wool and hair from ovine and caprine animals be held while TARP safeguard measures were implemented to temporarily suspend imports of these commodities.听听
Safeguard declarations under the听听(and equivalent powers in Scotland and Wales)听have now been published to suspend imports听into Great Britain听of the following commodities from the whole territory of听Croatia:听听
- fresh and chilled (untreated) hides and skins of ovine and caprine animals听(GBHC 540)听听听
- untreated wool and hair from ovine and caprine animals (GBHC 586)
The following safeguard declarations give effect to these restrictions:听

These safeguard measures apply from听19 December 2025听and will continue to apply until they are revoked or amended.听
